THE DUSTBOWL REVIVAL

The Dustbowl Revival is a Venice, California-based collective that merges bluegrass, gospel, pre-war blues and the hot swing of New Orleans to form a spicy roots cocktail. Known for their roaring live sets, Dustbowl bravely brings together many styles of traditional American music. Some call it string band-brass band mash up. Imagine Old Crow Medicine Show teaming up with Louis Armstrong’s Hot Fives and Sevens, or Bob Dylan and The Band jamming with Benny Goodman and his orchestra in 1938. It’s infectious, joyous music - a youthful take on time-worn American traditions.

"In a city like Los Angeles, home to musical stars in nearly every known genre, handing out the Best Live Band title is not easy. But the free-thinking local collective Dustbowl Revival's upbeat, old-school, All-American sonic safaris exemplify everything shows should be: hot, spontaneous, engaging and, best of all, a pleasure to hear. "  -- LA WEEKLY BEST OF 2013

T O M   B O P P

• Songs of Comfort from Yon Days of Yore •

Like “comfort food” at a restaurant, Tom Bopp is offering an evening of Pot Roast for the Ears. Tom draws inspiration from the audience, tailoring his offerings to suit the moment, pulling from a repertoire that spans centuries before the 60s. Songs may come from the American Civil War, or maybe the Great Depression. You might hear songs of Crosby, Astaire, Chevalier, or ragtime -- or a Cowboy song or three. Tom’s spontaneity, instrumental stylings, vocals and banter all help drive away the little irritants outside the theater door, and put a smile on your face.  Tom says his annual concerts with us are like coming back home.  Although he has been performing since 1983 in Yosemite National Park, Tom graciously credits Old Town Music Hall for launching his career.
